The untold struggle of being a Jack of all trades.

It’s very true that Jack of all trades masters none…

When you do too many things, it spreads you too thin and reduces your effectiveness and potential to succeed in either.

But picking one area to specialize in is not as easy — something that’s barely been talked about.

You don’t just wake up one day and decide to specialize on this one thing.

Especially if you are good at all, and you see potential for growth for each.

What happens if you are picking the wrong thing? What will happen with the rest? Won’t you lose them? Maybe you can divide your time and do either?

At least for me, that’s been the Jack struggle — The fear of losing other trades when I choose to focus on one.

It’s been 5+ years trying to practice many trades.

Time has gone. And I have seen what the Jack mindset has cost me. The money I could have made. The specialty I could have crafted, and the confidence I could have built. The wisdom I could have offered, and the people I could have trained.

The need to master something has grown increasingly visible through the years, and this jack has now been choked.

With that realization, I have zoned in on one craft this year, and that’s the craft of writing.

I am zoning out from all my interests, gifts, and talents and I have magnified one gift that has been paying me the most, has the potential for creating the most impact with where I’m at, and the kind I’m well known for…. My writing gift. My goal? To become a dangerously skilled writer.

As for you, it’s okay to try a few, to find your space. But once you’ve found a place, lock on it fast. Don’t wait too long. And don’t be too stubborn. Geek out on a craft, and be so good that they can’t ignore you.
